Welcome to our new site!
The Virtual Microscopy Database (VMD) is a centralized repository of high-resolution, interactive "virtual microscopy" images available for enhancing education, research and scholarship. This database allows educators and researchers without access to high quality histological glass slides or scanning and digitization equipment, or those in need of more examples of different tissues and organs, to obtain such images for use in their educational and research use
Funding from the American Association for Anatomy, MBF Bioscience and Anatomical Sciences Education (ASE) made the development and maintenance of this platform for donating and exchanging digital microcopy files possible.
Anatomical Sciences Education (ASE) is the premier international journal dedicated to advancing teaching and learning in anatomy and related disciplines. As an official publication of the American Association for Anatomy, ASE provides a trusted forum for evidence-based innovations, research, and best practices in gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroscience education across all levels—from undergraduate to postgraduate, allied health, and medical training. ASE empowers educators to elevate their teaching and inspire the next generation of health professionals. Explore the latest insights and join the conversation at asejournal.com.
Free VMD membership is available to faculty, staff or investigators with educational or research institutional affiliations.
